Guatemala, Here I come!

I am hours away from embarking on a crazy adventure! I am so excited to try something new, dive into a completely different culture, and learn a little on the way too! :) I surprisingly can say that I am not that nervous. There is a really great group of people going and I know that we are all going to have a blast.

As some of you may or may not know, I am going to Guatemala to finish up my ESL endorsement. I will be working in a classroom, grade-level yet to be determined, for the first part of the day and hopefully exploring for the second half.

I guess the most exciting thing about this trip is having no idea what to expect. I have no idea what I'll be doing in the classroom, no idea how many people live in the host family I'll be staying with, and no idea what food I'll be eating. It is really exhilarating not knowing what comes next. I really wanted to try and learn Spanish and just get to know more about the culture in Guatemala, but school and work and life all got in the way and none of that really happened. So I am sure that you're thinking, "Wow, that's kind of dumb not knowing Spanish and going to a Spanish speaking country for two weeks." And you know what, I completely agree. However, I think that I'll have enough support from the people around me and I hope that I know enough of a basis to be able to communicate. That is honestly the thing that I am most "worried" about, even though I know it'll work out just fine.

I plan to try and keep anyone that is interested updated on the two-week travel adventure. We have to write reflections for our Practicum course anyway, so I figured I might as well post them on my blog too! I should have internet connection with my host family while I am there.

I have posted a map of where Guatemala is. For the most part we will be in Guatemala City, Zone 9 and 10. We are also taking a weekend trip to Antigua. It should be a crazy adventure and I am so excited!!! :)
